UNDERSTAND YOUR OPTIONS

Advice for your circumstances.

Australia's family migration options include visas for eligible parents, children and certain other relatives. Each category has its own relationship, sponsorship and application requirements.

We review your family circumstances and explain the relevant options. Having a relative in Australia does not automatically create visa eligibility. Partner pathways are covered on our separate Partner visas page.

THE PATHWAYS

A closer look at your options.

01

Parents

Parent 103, Contributory Parent 143, aged parent options and Sponsored Parent (Temporary) 870 may be relevant, depending on your circumstances.

02

Children

Child visas 101 and 802, Adoption 102, and eligible Dependent Child or Orphan Relative pathways have distinct requirements.

03

Other relatives

Specific Carer, Remaining Relative and Aged Dependent Relative visas apply to defined relationships and specialised circumstances.

HOW WE HELP

A thoughtful plan. Clear next steps.

  • Review applicant and sponsor circumstances.
  • Compare the relevant family migration categories.
  • Explain relationship, support and evidence requirements.
  • Prepare an agreed application and its supporting documents.

BEFORE WE TALK

Prepare for your consultation.

You do not need every document ready to make an enquiry. For a detailed consultation, the following can help us understand your position.

  • Identity documents and evidence of the family relationship.
  • The proposed sponsor's Australian status and current visa information.
  • Relevant dependency, parental responsibility or support evidence.
  • Details of family members' locations and any previous application correspondence.
Bring documents to your consultation when requested. Please leave passport numbers and sensitive documents out of the initial enquiry form.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Can I sponsor any relative?

No. Family visas cover defined relationships and circumstances. Both the sponsor and applicant must meet the requirements of the particular category.

Are all parent visas permanent?

No. Temporary and permanent options exist. Subclass 870 is a temporary option and does not provide an automatic permanent residence pathway.

Does the balance of family test apply?

It applies to specified parent visa subclasses. We need to check the proposed pathway and any applicable exception.
